Mourning masks are a longstanding tradition in Pacific Northwest coast Native art. This mask portrays David’s late father, Dave Senior. He was a First Nations artist from early childhood, having learned from his mother, Ellen Neel, who was famous for her totem poles. David carved this piece in 1995 and is one of a series of masks which portray members of his family.
